Going to be buying a crewcab
So It looks like I will be picking up a longbed crewcab from a private party seller here locally in my town. It has been sitting for awhile but the onwer said it has a fresh 390 with maybe 5k on it ( installed ten years ago) Heres the kicker that kinda pushed me to seriosuly consider buying this rig. Its loaded, It's a crew cab special. it has true factory air conditioning ( not dealer add on) cargo light the ranger xlt door panels front and back the wood grain panels on the guages and lower dash and factory duel tanks. I felt this was pretty rare seeing most crews were bought by municipalities and forestry services and never ordered with options.I could be wrong but it was my first thought. Does anybody elses crew have options? Im really curious. It has been sitting for a little while and it does need some work. a wire fried in the harness so I will most likely be replacing the harness from a parts truck to get running again. But I was able to strike up a deal with the owner for 800 bucks even. Some rust in the usual places but not scary bad. I will be picking it up this week so I will be sure to post some pictures up of what it looks like. He has owned the truck since 73 so that makes me third owner.
edit: forgot to mention it still has the factory am/fm radio and factory speakers and grills on the front doors.

$800.00 is one hell of a deal in my mind. I'd get it in a heart beat myself. I can't honestly say I've ever seen a Ranger XLT Crew with factory air before, so I'm pretty sure you're correct in the 'rare as hen's teeth' aspect of your 'find'.
Great score, please keep us posted.

I take it this is a 2wd F350? Sounds like a heck of a deal to me. Be sure and post some pictures of it.

Re: Going to be buying a crewcab
Nice!! Sounds like you got a great deal on a F350 crew!! One thing to be aware of is that if yours is a 2WD with single rear wheels and front disc brakes, you are going to have a heck of a time (and spend a pretty penny) trying to find front rotors when you end up needing them. The brake pads and calipers are not easily available, but not nearly as hard to get as the front rotors. So you might want to check those front brakes right away (again, if this is a 2WD and not a dually) and consider converting the front disc brake system to another year's version. The disc brakes parts are all obsolete for the F350 2WD SRW trucks. I know this because I just went through 2 months of hell trying to get everything I needed for mine.
But you are way ahead of the game by stealing that truck for $800!! Cant wait to see some pics!

Re: Going to be buying a crewcab
I will be sure to post lots of pictures to show the state of the truck is in when I get it. I will be having it towed ( not running since its been sitting for a couple years due to the fried wire.) to my fathers barn so I can start working on getting it back to running shape. It is a longbed 2wd srw. interesting to know calfdemon thanks for the information!

Re: Going to be buying a crewcab
Great find, Rich. From what I hear, the factory build sheets are usually behind the rear seat on these. Hope yours is still there; be interesting to see if it confirms the present options.

Re: Going to be buying a crewcab
ok all. Afterwork me and my employee went over to pick up the crewcab with his tow truck. Here are the first two pictures of it. By the time I got it to my fathers it was too dark to take more but here is a general.
Only trace amounts signs of rust in forward cab area. some surface stuff on the hood. the truck sports a mid 70s shell in incredible shape all the wood paneling in the inside is like brand new no water leaks ...dunno how that happened. all the doors shut amazinly well. seats have original upolstrey on them. front has a cover the rear is acually pretty decent though. anyhow when I go out there next im going to take a bunch of the exterior and interior and post them up.....

Very Nice! I just bought a crew cab. I think I will be the fourth owner. I mean the fourth FORDification member to own it that is.

Re: Going to be buying a crewcab
Nice score! Looks like a steal to me. Fyi my truck was originally a Nevada Dept. of Energy truck and was bare bones. Not even power brakes. The only ones I've seen with options have been 71-72's for some reason, but I'm sure there are some others out there. From what I understand civilians could buy the trucks but they cost roughly twice the price of a standard cab version of the same truck. I'm sure a few of those got some options; probably the case with yours.

Thats interesting Joe, thanks for the input. I was talking to the old man i bought it from and he was telling me he bought it from the original owner and that the original owner paid 10,000 for the truck brand new. I was kinda suprised how much they cost. thats a good chunk of dough back in 72' heck even now.

You don't want that old beat up truck... It is going to take time and energy to fix it up. I suggest you put it on a car hauler and just send it down here to FL, and let me have the burden of that old thing!
